What should I eat? The traditional Hmong diet consists primarily of white rice, pork, beef and other meats.  Many kids and young adults do not eat a lot of vegetables, such as lettuce, broccoli, or peas, which need to be added to your diet in plentiful amounts.

It is best to avoid eating too much pork or red meat, since they contain more fat than skinless chicken or fish. Eat smaller portions of white rice, and try long grain or brown rice instead. If you are overweight, try to take smaller portions at meals.

Try to drink water or diet soda rather than sugary or sweetened drinks.

Foods to avoid:

- junk food (fried potato chips)
- fast food (cheeseburgers, french   fries)
- greasy, deep-fried foods
- too much pork & red meat
- too much candy & sugar snacks

Foods to choose:

- granola snacks, baked snac
ks, baked chips, or nuts
- vegetables
- fruits
- skinless chicken, fish, beans,   tofu
- whole grain breads, brown rice
- skim milk, lowfat cheese & dairy   products, frozen yogurt
- water or sugar-free diet pop
